Colonel Thomas Leftwich

Colonel Thomas Leftwich was born in Virginia in 1740.  He married Mary Challis in 1764 and had three children.  In 1771 he married Bethenia Ellis and had five children. In 1783, he married June Stratton and had eleven children.  He commanded the Rear Guard of General Gates Division at the Battle of Camden in the Revolutionary War, and later became a colonel in the Virginia Militia.  He also served as County Justice of Peace of Bedford County.  He lived at "Mt. Airy" near Leesville, VA and is interred there in the family burying ground.
